Literacy in EES

Image
In EES we are focusing on recognizing the alphabet and the sounds that the letters make. We learn that with these letters and sounds we can create words and words help us communicate with the people around us. Even if we do not use verbal language, understanding the letters in the alphabet and words around us, it allows us to have effective communication in other forms as well i.e) picture symbols, sign language etc.!  Below are pictures of both our reusable activity books and also a literacy task we completed this week, creating AT words.

This week we tried using oil pastels in art and decided they felt smooth when colouring with them on paper! We painted black cats and stuck them to the colourful background and learned that this is called a silhouette! We are continuing to read the story Brown Bear, Brown Bear and working on various number and letter recognition activities. Take a look at pictures from the week:

We have spent the last couple weeks, talking about Thanksgiving and things that we are thankful for! We have also made turkey's using shapes we have been learning about. We continue to learn about the season fall and the different things that happen throughout the season. This week, there was a day where it felt like winter because there was snow on the ground instead of coloured leaves falling from the trees!! Take a look at some of this weeks captured moments!

Let me take you on a visual tour of the EES classroom, COVID style!

Welcome to Room 3! This year we have ensured that surfaces are clear and only the essential learning tools are in the classroom, so that regular cleaning and adequate sanitizing is achievable throughout the day.            Each Student has their own fine motor task bin, vocational task bin and Academic task books, instead of the shared centres we have used in previous school years. Each of these bins and books are easy to wipe down between use.  Each Student has their own Communication books, that included individual copies of visuals that may be helpful in their learning and individual copies of the daily schedule. These are also easy to wipe down throughout the day.              All the toys in the classroom are made from a material that is easy to clean between use and able to be thoroughly washed and sanitized each day.  Students each have a bin to keep their personal belongings during the day. Student belongings do not mix with other students.  If you have further questions about

We have started talking about how it is now fall and what fall looks like. We know that the leaves on the trees change colour! We also have some new fine motor activities in our task bins and we are doing an awesome job with them. Finally, we got to enjoy playing with shaving cream during sensory time and we LOVED getting messy with it!! Take a look at some of this weeks captured moments!
